Timberbuilt designs and builds sustainable, architecturally distinct timber frame homes from coast to coast, and we’re proud to offer our services throughout Montana. We provide customizable designs, timber framing, and on-site assembly to create beautiful homes that are energy efficient, comfortable, and engineered to last generations.

Montana’s untamed wilderness, from the windswept plains of the east to the rugged peaks of the Rockies, requires homes that are as resilient as they are beautiful.

With their timeless timber frame construction, our homes are designed to blend seamlessly into Montana’s vast landscapes, offering a balance of strength, beauty, and sustainability. Whether you’re envisioning a lakeside retreat in Flathead, a home in Bozeman, or a secluded cabin near Glacier National Park, a timber frame home is ideally suited for Montana’s diverse environments and climates.

Montana is a state where the land itself feels larger than life.

A timber frame can complement the dramatic scenery — whether you’re building on flat grasslands or in the shadow of the Bitterroot Range.

Great rooms with vaulted ceilings, timber beams stretching overhead, windows framing views of the Continental Divide — these are the types of spaces we’ve built in Montana. Our projects have spanned from Ennis and Bozeman, through Big Sky, up into the western edge of Glacier in places like Polebridge and Troy. We strive to always make the most of every property’s natural assets, with expansive decks and porches that invite you to step outside.

Montana’s steep, forested lots are ideal for walkout basements, which not only add livable square footage but also create seamless transitions between indoor comfort and the rugged outdoors.

Whether you’re building a ranch-style home in Billings or a mountain getaway in Big Sky, our designs can adapt to fit the aesthetic. Stone accents, metal roofing, or natural wood exteriors can all be incorporated to reflect Montana’s regional styles, from rustic lodges to contemporary mountain retreats.

FEATURED MONTANA PROJECTS

We have warm ties to Montana and a deep history of builds in the state. The weather extremes offer a great opportunity for our designs to flex their energy efficient muscle. It’s difficult to take a bad picture of any home surrounded by so much natural beauty.

Montana’s extreme seasons make energy efficiency a critical component of any home, and we excel in this area.

Winters bring sub-zero temperatures and summers can be hot. We build with a combination of timber framing and structural insulated panels (SIPs) to ensure you stay comfortable year-round. SIPs create an airtight envelope that helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, keeping heat in during the long Montana winters and cool air circulating through the home during dry, hot summers.

In more remote areas like Whitefish, where energy infrastructure may be limited, our homes have a lower reliance on oversized HVAC systems. The SIP construction not only cuts down on energy consumption but also improves air quality by preventing drafts and sealing out dust and pollutants, particularly beneficial in areas like Great Falls where wind can bring debris into homes.

Building in Montana’s diverse and often extreme environments requires more than just standard construction. We engineer our homes to handle the heavy snowfalls of the Rocky Mountains and the strong winds of the prairies.

Each home is custom-engineered to account for the specific challenges of your site—whether that’s ensuring a home in Kalispell can bear the weight of a snowpack or making sure a Missoula home stands strong against the gusting winds sweeping down from the mountains.

In Montana’s forested regions, fire is always a concern. Timberbuilt homes offer superior fire resilience due to the slow-burning nature of large timbers. Unlike smaller, more combustible building materials, our timber frame construction holds strong in high-heat conditions, giving you peace of mind in fire-prone areas like the forests surrounding Helena. In addition, airtight SIPs help keep smoke out, further safeguarding the home’s interior from wildfire-related hazards and pollutants.

Timberbuilt’s homes are designed not just to endure, but to thrive in Montana’s natural landscapes, providing comfort and security no matter what Mother Nature throws your way.
