A home in a class of its own, Timberbuilt’s take on small-scale living is the ultimate outbuilding for a shady backyard, vacation property, or beachfront lot on the lake.
Just like our standard house designs and small timber frame homes, we build our shed homes with energy efficient SIPs and hand-crafted timbers. Assembly of the shed home is DIY friendly. The timbers and SIPs arrive as a pre-packaged kit, and a full foundation is not required.
The small shed home
Measuring 16’ x 12’ with 190 square feet, the small shed home is a variation of our timber frame gardening shed. Several configurations are possible, including designs with or without a bathroom.
This tiny home has been designed for a twin bed or fold out futon, although a full-sized bed isn’t out of the question. A sink, dresser and desk round out the interior space.
The shed home is fully insulated with triple-layered SIPs, the same panels that we use in designs like the Burke and the Lake Cottage. The panels’ tight seal cuts down on thermal loss, making heating and cooling a breeze.
A small window air conditioner in the summer, or wood stove in the winter, is more than enough to keep the shed home comfortable year round. The SIPs also keep rodents and insects where they belong: outside.
The large shed home
Our large shed home is a building of a thousand possibilities. A hunting cabin, kids playhouse, ski chalet, yoga studio or private guest suite. No proposal is off the table for this versatile outbuilding.
Step inside and a compliment of sturdy timbers reminds you that this isn’t your typical outbuilding. At 16’ x 20’ the large shed home is generous enough to accommodate a full-sized bed, couch, wood stove, and a sink with plenty of countertop space. An optional bathroom can be fitted in the back corner.
Windows on all four sides promise lots of light in every season, and excellent insulation keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
