1) Design In 2009 Timberbuilt won design awards from both TimberHome Living and Custom Wood Homes. You can pick from one of our several standard plans or work with our design group to completely customize your home. Our designs most often incorporate the use of some different shapes and materials to deliver architectural appeal. These things add interest, your not just building a box. Our design allows customers to build a smaller footprint, while realizing a large volume of space. Along with the inherent beauty of the exposed timbers and volume created in our design, our wall and roof system provides us to produce dramatic living areas and loft areas. We tend to measure the cost of homes by the square foot when we should be considering the cubic feet of space we get in a home design. By their nature SIP roof and wall systems offer more volume due to the fact that the insulating envelope is in the roof plane not the ceiling, thus providing much greater opportunity to utilize that space. Using a smaller footprint and maximizing space allows our clients to build a higher quality home. Money that may be spent on wasted space, can now be spent on higher quality finishes.
2) Building Green Many timber framers will incorporate SIP panels for an energy efficient home, but we utilize SIP panels for both structure and Insulation. Inherently this allows us to be more cost effective. Our standard is to use a 6” wall panel and a 10” roof panel. All panels are cut on a C&C machine to ensure proper fit and eliminate any air leakage. During installation we also foam all of the seams and tape the interior seams delivering the tightest house possible. Our window and door cut outs are also done on a C&C machine to ensure proper size, a perfect fit, and eliminate any waste on site. Once all of the timbers and panels are set we will install 2x6 lumber in every window and door opening so your finish contractor can simply slide them into place - saving them time and you money. Our design and building practices also incorporate the use of many re-recycled materials providing an extremely green product with a killer look.
3) Timbers - We utilize Eastern White Pine, Douglas Fir, and Reclaimed Timbers for the interior and Cedar for the exterior. Many companies don't use Cedar on the exterior because of cost. Cedar will hold up much better and look better after they have been exposed to the elements. In addition all of our timbers have detail - routerd edges, curved braces, detail on timbers that extend beyoned the loft, ect. The big difference is size of timbers. In a house of your size we are talking about 10 x 14 or 10 x 16 ridges, 10 x12 rafters, 8 x10 porch post, 8 x 10 or 8 x 6 floor joists. This is MUCH larger than most of our competition will use.
4) Joinery is all handcrafted mortise and tenon joinery. This is how we notch out the timbers, fit them together, and peg them. A much stronger and more stable method than post and beam.
5) A Timberbuilt home is designed and constructed with the environment and efficiency in mind. Timberbuilt partners with Insulspan to provide our customers with high quality Structural Insulated Panels. All of the panels are pre-cut on a C&C machine for exact precision and a more efficient build on the job site. We also cut and install all of the lumber in the window and door cut outs. This is an additional cost that we will take on to insure the job is done efficiently and correctly.
Insulspan Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) are recognized as one of the top 10 Green Building Products of 2007. Insulspan Structural Insulated Panels, reduce heat loss by up to 60 percent in residential construction.
6) Installation - Timberbuilt will be on-site to erect your frame and install your panels. Many national companies, just send a package to your general contractor to install. All our crews do is install panels and frames they are experts. This means a more efficient and more accurate job. We will also provide any roof overbuilds on your porches if necessary to ensure the fit of your porch timbers.
